First, thanks to everyone who came out to the show Saturday night. We had a lot of fun opening for Eruption, I think it was among the Jay Rakes Band’s better shows. Eruption is both ridiculous and amazing all at once, and played some faithful renditions of early Van Halen tunes. These dudes are all about “the big show.” They made us backstage passes, gave us some beer, and even had a bowl of M&M’s with brown ones sorted out. Bad ass! They put on a really entertaining show, Jay and Kim and I all had a blast (Tripp left early, as always!)
In addition to the usual cast of characters that appears at the Jay Rakes Band shows (especially Matt Davis!), I ran into some old friends from back in the Ocean View days. It was awesome to see Bob, Larry, Dawn, Harry and Ryan again (where the hell was Tom, man??). I’ve been thinking about them a lot lately. Playing live is always a rush, and it was even more thrilling to play a show in front of old friends.
I think we have another gig with Eruption coming up, I’ll have it posted here (under the “Upcoming Shows” box in the sidebar) when I have the info.
Oh yeah! There’s a a new mp3 on the player. It’s kind of humung.. kind of hughmungo– it’s really big!! (like 14 minutes) It’s the Jay Rakes Band jamming at Jay’s house, with Tripp on Roland V-Drums. Totally unedited, unrehearsed, and full of mistakes.. but there are some good moments.

I did have a great time. Eruption is absolutely absurd…in the best way possible. Ridiculously awesome is the term, I think. It was also nice meeting more of your friends. I’ve heard so many stories about them and it’s nice to associate names with faces. It was also great seeing that big guy “hug” you from behind…you looked absolutely frightened. Again, I had fun.
Also, Kathleen does the funniest monkey-walk ever.
I’m told the big guy was Bert’s Boss. (I’m calling Bert, Diamond Bert here on out)
