Despite my exhaustive blogs concerning my life as a musician, “Virginia is for losers” is the second most popular keyphrase searches that will lead you to this site.
The most popular search is for “peppermint beach club.” The gig I played there with the Jay Rakes Band may be one of the few publicized on the web and therefor brings you here. I’ll save you all the trouble and confirm that, yes, there is a new club on the oceanfront with the same name as that famous club from back in the day (that I was too young to get into– I missed Exodus, DRI and Body Count!!!).
This new place is not anything special, it’s about the size of Hot Tuna, actually. Maybe a little smaller, and it’s in the Howard Johnson. However, there is a guy by the name of Chris Serrano who is booking shows left and right in that place and in other places around town and he’s out to make shit happen. So, while ‘Peppermint’ isn’t anything special, you may be surprised at who comes through there in the coming years.
