Dad also brought home some old P3 towers from work that were going to be trashed. I took the best parts of each and made a halfway decent computer out of them. Works great for what I doing with it.

I think we're seeing a trend in free information starting to swell from the underground of the Internet. Wikipedia is gaining steam like there is no tomorrow (it can easily be #2 or #3 on any google search) and despite it being run by the public, still serves as an incredible wealth of information (the fact that ANY topic can be inserted into the system certainly doesn't hurt). I also like the trend of personal organization tools that seem to be popping up everywhere - flickr, 30boxes, basecamp, del.icio.us, etc. etc. It's making the internet not only a place of information and entertainment (YouTube!) but actually useful on a daily basis as well.

As for Linux - I have often had the same fascination but I am too set in my ways to format any of my machines to jsut tool around with it. The spare computer is key.

Despite all of these things, I still say we'd be better off if the internet was restricted to Lynx browsing and Gopher groups.
