Scam Alert

A friend just informed me, via myspace, of this scam that targets musicians and bands. Thought I’d repost the warning.

EMERGENZA US Entertainment Soliciting Bands and Musical Acts In Pay For play Nationwide Scam New York New York

EMERGENZA US Entertainment
666 5th Ave. Suite 341
New York New York 10103
U.S.A.

Emergenza US Entertainment is a pseudo-booking agency based out of New York that solicits bands and musical acts to pay a $70.00 fee to basically buy space to perform at various venues for “exposure”. Once the company has enough victims, it uses the money received to pay various venues to use their stage facilities for a “battle of the bands” contest.

In addition, the company gets the bands to sell tickets to the events leading them to believe by doing so, it will improve their chances of getting heard by top industry leaders such as SONY MUSIC and other major record labels. The company also uses “endorsements” from musical companies like Ernie Ball for “free guitar strings” and musical equipment.

The bands are promised much, and when the shows go on, the “voting” is set up in such a way to where the band that generates the most money via ticket sales is put into some unclear ranking system, and as such, has very little to do with whether the acts have any talent. If you have $70.00 and can carry an instrument on stage, you’re in.

Bands and artists who participate in this “pay for play” rip-off only demean the profession and devalue musicians who are out there trying to get paying gigs and seriously work their careers.

Every concerned musician who cares about their profession is advised to spread the word about this event scam organization who are profitting off the backs of the naive using “hope of fame and exposure” as the proverbial carrot on a stick.

Wow, So many of the people we know have totally played those shows. However, a band I went to school with called Fluttr won an Emergenza contest and was flown to Germany to play some “warped tour esque” shows over there. I think they opened for Placebo and Tool or something like that.
I don’t doubt that this is a scam at all though!!!

Anything and everything is a scam if it don’t work the way you wont it to.I have heard of groups doing this, but at the same time i have heard of bands getting some free air time to show off their music.Sometimes that is what it takes for some bands to get seen and noticed. How realy knows except those that do it.
