Kim has been post­ing some amaz­ing pic­tures of her mother and father and their fam­ily on her flickr account and this par­tic­u­lar photo of her father has had me laugh­ing out loud all week­end. Kim’s dad, Rufino, or Jun, or ‘Uncle Lakay’ as a lot of the fam­ily calls him (which means Uncle Old Man), is a real char­ac­ter and one hell of a good cook. He was a chef in the US Navy and, for­tu­nately for him, the Navy trained him to cook for large groups of peo­ple at a time so whip­ping up food for the bar­cada get-togethers is no real feat for him. He makes the best gravy I have ever had, and to watch him pre­pare ban­gus can be mesmerizing.

We thought this pic­ture was so amaz­ing that we decided to make a t-shirt with it on cafe­press. We’d like to get all of his god­chil­dren to buy one (which is prac­ti­cally every­one in the fam­ily) and show up at one of the par­ties with them all wear­ing them so we can show him how much we appre­ci­ate his hard work and dirty jokes.
