Just explain something to me. I can understand that youth groups try to reach out to kids by using popular music or culture and sometimes it’s going to come off hokey because you have a kind of dorky guy who doesn’t relate to kids as well as he thinks he does trying to be cool to a bunch of teenagers, and even without a Church affiliation, that stuff never goes over to well.
What I can’t understand is what this guy was thinking. Was this meant to be funny in a stupid way, or funny in a “gee golly gosh” kinda way? Does he think “Baby Got Back” is a really awesome song to begin with and “Baby Got Bible” was just a super genius idea? I’m not sure this video succeeds in ANY way whatsoever in evangelizing.
This is clearly an example of what happens when someone turns from their secular ways and begins to live a very theologic (or rather his perception of thelogic) life. He confused the message with the delivery of the message. I think it is easy to fall into the trap that by taking things of this world (”Baby Got Back”) and reworking it to be a bit more spiritual (”Bible Got Back”) you are somehow relating to kids or people on their level. More often than not this is the case. You get a grown man doing ridiculous things to draw attention the Lord. The attention drawn is to him though and his reworking of the lyrics. It become a bit of a hymno-anomoly.
I’m working on my version of Public Enemy’s “I Don’t Want to be Called Yo Nigga”. It’s called “I Don’t Want to be Called Yo Heathen”. When it’s done I’ll be sure to send it to you to post so that you can help use this cool song to convert many peeps!
speechless…..

What if we turned “Ain’t norhing but a G Thang” into “Ain’t Nothing But A G.O.D Thang”
or “My Adidias” into “Ama Deus
or “Let The Rhythm Hit ‘em” into “Let the Rapture Hit ‘em”
or “I Ain’t Tha One” (by NWA) into “He is The One”
……don’t forget “Christ Christ, Baby”
I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
