Take a Hike, Hyphen

I just registered lowquality.net and have finally started the migration from the hyphenated low-quality.net

When I originally registered the domain I didn’t know anything about e-commerce and I didn’t know that hyphenated domain names is more or less a nono if you want people to visit your site (of course if I posted something interesting once in awhile that might be a big help).

At any rate, help me wish the hyphen a bon voyage.

New Digs

I’ve been bad at the internet lately.

I haven’t been blogging, I haven’t been taking any pictures and I haven’t done much of anything else on the ol’ tubes either. This not to say that nothing is going on. Kim and I just moved into a mostly empty apartment and have been busy moving in and trying our best to get settled. Right now our entire lives have been revolving around the futon I bought a few years ago– it’s the only sitting, sleeping, or otherwise reclining furniture in the whole pad (apart from an office chair and a drum throne I used for teaching).

Apart from the neighborhood restaurant scene and the excellent beer within walking distance of the new apartment (something that I am sure will affect our life greatly in the near future) I am certain that this new living situation will take a positive impact on our lifestyle. We have a lot more places to go for a walk, ride our bikes, and just do general “burn more calories and less gas” activities and greater incentive and control over how we eat. Neither of us has been to the gym in awhile and I know that I can feel that having a job where I sit on my ass all day is taking its toll. Once we are completely moved in, I want to try to get in the habit of taking a walk or a bike ride every day when I get home just to unwind.

In other news, a new friend of mine named Geoff asked me to play an opening set with him and some friends at the end of the month. Geoff and I are also talking about a project ourselves just for the sole purpose of writing and recording some awesome funk / soul influenced rock music.

I also have a stack of songs to learn / record for Brett now that I am getting settled in the apartment. Damn. I have a lot of catching up to do.

First Fuzz Bass

I was trying to think of who recorded the earliest example of distorted bass. My first impulse was to go with King Crimson or Black Sabbath back in 1969 on their respective first albums but then I thought of Larry Graham on “Dance to The Music” in 1968, which is not only earlier but just a damned profound example of the style… then I was listening to Rubber Soul and I remembered this song by George Harrison where Paul plays kind of a fuzzy psychedelic guitar hook on the bass.

Anyone know of an earlier example? If not, name some good distorted bass tunes
