A Summary of My Weekend

  1. Thursday - Kim and I got our own car insurance policy
  2. Friday - 5:00 PM While driving home from work I get pegged with a pebble in my windshield. Not serious but it’s not something I want to get worse.
  3. Friday - 8:30 PM As I am going to go hang with Joe, Mike, Doug and Josh at Cogan’s; Kim calls me and tells me she has a flat tire. I ask her if she needs help but she is out near her parents’ house in VB and her dad is on his way. We both figure she’ll be done before I could make it out there.
  4. Friday - 10:30 PM Kim calls and says that they finally figured out how to get the wheel lock off to remove the wheel (something found on Izuzu Rodeos than I am unfamiliar with). The lugs were also too tight for a little Asian girl and her 64 year old father to get off with an air-wrench. Apparently two creepy rednecks helped them out and one made a point to hold Kim’s hand and ask her about her rings. I was not happy upon hearing this. Kim called me after all of this had happened and came out to Cogan’s to join us. We drank and broke Doug’s phone.
  5. Saturday - The Summer heat royally kicking our asses, we decided to get an AC unit for the front room (where we are currently sleeping). I also stopped at an auto glass repair place to see when I get the “city star” in my window fixed. On our way home we stop at Doumar’s for some lunch. While sitting at a red light waiting to turn onto 21st street we get rear ended. The damage isn’t bad and we were not liable, but it was a completely unnecessary addition to our crappy weekend.
  6. Saturday - Joe and I install the AC unit in the front room, sometime during which I am called by the insurance company of the girl that hit me. I sit down at my computer to see if I can figure out the exact name of the street we were on and I notice my internet is down. Joe and I pull up chairs and sit in front of the AC unit.
  7. Saturday - I call Cox and after jumping through the hoops of their automated support service talk to a trained monkey that asks me to do the same “unplug, replug, reset” routine. He tells me I might have a bad modem and I should buy a new one. I tell him I don’t think I should have to since this one isn’t even a month old yet. “Oh,” he says and talks to his manager. He also waives the fee to have a tech come over but he insists that if the modem is that new that “nothing can be wrong with it.” I tell him that it was working no later than 20 minutes ago and if there is no outages in the area than I don’t know what else could be wrong with it. He tells me there are no outages and basically doesn’t do anything but tell me how to replace the modem via warranty. I am frustrated and decide to go to Kim’s dad’s birthday party so nothing else can go wrong. I set the AC to 75 degrees and I expect a nice cool apartment when I come home.
  8. Saturday - I return from a fun time and a typical “Kabute Kids” get-together of overeating and bad jokes to a hot apartment and the UPS in my office beeping. I blew a fuse. I don’t think the AC unit did it on it’s own, because now my cable is working and Joe, who was on his way over to help me finish drilling down a bracket on the AC unit tells me there is a utility truck outside on the corner. I walk back into my room and the internet is working. They had an outage. The monkey on the phone was wrong and now there was a monkey down in the street blowing stuff up.
  9. Sunday - Kim and I sleep ever so peacefully in a nice and cool apartment. We did laundry at my parents house and went to IHOP. Since the AC unit is just big enough to cool the living room and not quite big enough to cool the other bedrooms I thought it was a good idea to get a smaller unit for the office just so my basses don’t turn into bows and arrows from humidity and heat. So we bought a smaller AC at Home Depot.
  10. Sunday - After some clever engineering Bill and I got the AC installed and powered it up. It worked for a few minutes and then blew a fuse. Apparently a lot of the receptacles are on one circuit and it overloaded. I unplugged my computer, plugged the smaller AC back in and it started to work so I plugged my PC into a different outlet. After awhile, the fuse blew again, BUT my PC stayed running. So I discovered that the new outlet I used for the PC was on a different circuit. So I took a 16 gauge extension cord and plugged the AC unit into that outlet and now everything seems to be ok. Apart from the impending electric bill.

…not to mention that the people at Doumars are too old school for fucking drink carriers.

  2. 2 Preston

Drink Carriers are uber-modern. Sorry to hear about all your trouble, were your fuses those screw-in glass ones?, We used to have to replace those all the time in Ghent, and it was always a pain to find new ones when we did.

You’re right, Preston. Justin forgot that part…while we were sitting at the red light the bottom of the “drink bag” from Doumar’s broke and Cherry Coke spilled all over me. I was trying to clean the soda off of my legs when we got rear-ended. When we got hit we both let out a long sigh and stepped out into the blazing hot noon sun.

Awww man that sounds like you two had a shit weekend…sorry to hear that!

  5. 5 Justin

Indeed. Maybe this weekend will be better.

I was told that, because of the location of the windshield crack, that the glass is not repairable and I will have to replace it.
