Last night it rained and I had expected to see less smoke drift­ing in from the Dis­mal Swamp fire but instead there is even more this morn­ing. I am not par­tic­u­larly sen­si­tive to smells usu­ally but this stuff is killing me. Maybe I am just a self­ish, lazy, Amer­i­can with­out any inkling as to what its like to really work for a liv­ing, but how can it pos­si­bly take weeks for a mob of fire­fight­ers to put out a fire? I guess I just don’t get it.

Surely some­thing sim­i­lar to this brush fire has hap­pened in Vir­ginia before but I can’t recall ever expe­ri­enc­ing thick white smoke drift­ing in from miles away.
