Update

Saturday afternoon, Kim and I cleaned out my car at my parents’ house and I hung out at watched TV for awhile. When I came out the crack in my windshield had extended 8 inches beyond the other side of my city sticker. I had decided to put repairing it off for awhile but that just wasn’t an option anymore.

So Monday I called Glass Doctor and they sent a guy out to fix it the same day. I am told that Car Insurance will cover auto glass and usually it does not count against the driver. Nevertheless, the cost for the repair was slightly less than my deductible so there was no point in making a claim. I now have a windshield with a lifetime warranty against leaks, and any breaks or chips that occur within the next 365 days are covered (minus non-glass parts and labor, but I paid the extra 20 dollars to extend the warranty to cover parts and labor).

My new motto lately is “Get it.”

Kim and I have a combined income of about 60k but we live like people who make half that. The student loans (mine and hers), my car loan, the price of fucking gas, insurance, and what have you are kicking us in the pants every day. We’re getting by but not comfortably. I always think its better to save what little money we have but dammit every time I put off buying something we need and put that money away, something like a windshield getting pinged with a rock makes me have to spend that money anyway. It’s not like me saving the money makes these minor emergencies occur, it just makes no sense to hesitate spending out money how we want to because it’s just going to get taken from us anyway.

For several months I’ve been throwing a few extra bucks at my smallest student loan and my car payment in an attempt to wear it down. Paying of the car will be a wonderful thing when it happens. I think once my excess payments chip the principle down to something more manageable it will go much faster.

Back in December Kim’s cousins got her a DVD collection of the first season of Arrested Development for her birthday. Kim and I being the incurable skeptics that we are, put off watching it until we got the new apartment and opted to not order cable. I started to suspect when I ripped the cellophane wrapper off the box, that I was going to regret not getting into this show earlier.

Suffice to say we are now on the third disc of season two.

Sweet mother of god, I can’t believe anything so inventive and hilarious was ever on TV. Fans of the show can complain all they like that it only lasted three seasons, but shows like this never ever get made. The fact that it died early gives it the joy of never jumping the shark (how many more seasons of the Simpsons can you people take?)

I hope it makes the creators make a bundle in syndication. And they are making a movie next year, I hope that doesn’t suck too.

Meeting Geoff and Rianna this week to discuss future “band stuff.” We’re all kind of dragging our feet, but it’s understandable. I think we’re all kind of weather worn by our previous attempts in the “music industry.” I think its good, though, that we’re all a little bit jaded but realizing that we have no choice but to do something. I think good things will come of this group, but it’s just not gonna happen over night. It’s good to meet people who are on the level musically and also empathetic to each other’s previous misfortunes. I think “hitting bottom” is a strong analogy, but we’ve all been through stuff where we didn’t think music was in out futures anymore and its refreshing to walk out of the wreckage and make the choice to do it anyway.

I don’t know if that makes sense.

I just hope we can find a drummer.

  • To add to “I always think its better to save what little money we have but dammit every time I put off buying something we need and put that money away, something like a windshield getting pinged with a rock makes me have to spend that money anyway.”…

Justin and I bought a new bed last night after putting it off for a while. SOOooo this morning I have a sinking feeling that there may be a leak in my car radiator. I guess I’ll just have to top off the coolant until I can get some tests run and find out what the problem is. I would say that it’s funny, but it’s really not.

  • I always go for the extra insurance coverage, even if it seems stupid. I think life has taught me one too many times that as soon as I don’t get insurance on something, that something will break and I will be screwed. prime example, over the course of a year I had all four tires on my focus replaced. a few months later I got a nail in one and i took it to merchants excited to know I had road hazard insurance on them. Come to find out I had road hazard insurance on three of the four, the fourth insurance-less tire pf course was the one with the nail in it, go figure

  • I like your new motto.
